Think about getting rid of the PCV in the manifold while your at it.
External valve with a oil catch can.

Cat Man, get rid of the internal PCV valve altogether or replace? What catch can do you recommend? The Mishimoto is expensive!

Thanks Again!

Wow, that is some intense, in-depth reading. I know I should do everything you are recommending since I will have the intake manifold off, but that is some true engine builder mods right there. I just need to clean my throttle body to prevent the CEL from kicking in the P2178 code. I figured I would replace the PVC valves since she was off, but Pandora's Box has been opened.

I will re-read your thread again and see how in-depth the catch can mod is. It is much easier on the LT and LS motors I am used to.

More to follow...

Actually, cleaning the TB would not be my first choice to fix your p2178. Like donbrew said in your other thread, look for vacuum leaks, or anywhere air could be leaking, between the MAF sensor and the O2 sensor. This includes the flex pipe.

My TB never was dirty. Most of the oil vapors in the PCV system, that could potentially foul the TB, will get stuck in the intercooler.

I did find the outlet duct from the airbox to the TB has a small piece missing where the clamp connects to the TB. The clamp was finger loose as well. I tightened it up and disconnected the battery for 5 min and it is running strong now.

I think the P/N to the duct is 15909461, but that thing is $100.00. What do you recommend I use in it's place?

Thanks for the info. I was dreading pulling the intake manifold.

Outlet Duct

Hey All,
Another question for you all. The outlet duct (P/N 1509461) has some damage to it and may be causing my P2178 CEL. It is #8 in the diagram below. I see some have used dryer ducting for the 2.2/2.4, non-SS models but only on the intake side. Do you think the dryer ducting will work on the outlet side? A new OEM duct is $100.00???

Let me know your thought on the dryer ducting for the outlet side.

Thanks,
-Ron

All 3 threads merged. This is all about your p2178 code, let's keep it all together here.

I would not replace it with dryer ducting.

It does not connect to the TB, that is the turbocharger on the other end of the duct.

This duct is not subject to positive pressure(boost), so I would try patching it, or covering it with plastic, a piece of rubber hose, duct tape.

Maybe a picture would help us make a more specific suggestion

EDIT: if it's in the flexible, accordion part of the duct, it will be very difficult to repair. Probably impossible if on the bottom of the duct, where oil from the PCV system collects..
