One tidbit for the anal-retentive types who are constantly cleaning and re-oiling their KN filters. The filters actually filter more efficiently once some dirt begins accumulating in the filter, and this does not compromise air flow until the filter gets clogged with crud. The 50,000 mile cleaning interval should be adhered to unless you live the the dust bowl or do dirt track racing.

This is something K& N stresses in their instructions that many fail to follow. Only under extream conditions do they recomend early cleaning.

I don't think I ever cleaned the K&N filter I put in my Grand Am several years ago. I slightly oiled it originally and it stayed clean for a couple years.

Note if you buy one and it has any pink look to it do not oil it. I have seen too many oil a pre oiled one when new. Generally 98% of them are oiled enough from the factory and do not need any more oil.
