Having problems mounting rear calipers after replacing rotors and pads
I went down to Pick 'n Pull just at the end of a big snow storm with my tools and a list of potential donor cars, their colours and locations to help me find them quickly. The first Malibu I got to had the correct rear calipers but the caliper bracket I was after was already gone. That car had been in the yard the least amount of time of all the cars I had on my list so then I began to worry that the brackets might be gone on the other cars as well but I need not have worried. The very next car (another Malibu) I went to had the correct brakes and the brackets I needed (the driver's side) was still there. When I got the part off I was happy to see the sliders were not seized and were moving freely. As I walked down another row or two I noticed the same calipers on some of the other potential donor cars I had identified on my list.
It is good to see that getting use replacement rear calipers and caliper brackets for the SS at a Pick 'n Pull is very easy and it's likely that there will be a good number of cars in the yard that will have these rear calipers - at least for now. At some point in the future, however, the plentitude of potential donor cars for SS rear caliper parts showing up at the wreckers will diminish to the point when they're rare but for now at least, the picking is good.
As the weather was not so nice that day, I'm glad I had done my mission planning and had that list telling me where all the potential donor cars were. It saved me a lot of time walking around and looking in the yard. My post 7 posts up is a good resource for anyone needing to know what models and years of cars are potential donors for SS rear caliper parts. I just made a correction to that post so now I think it's pretty accurate.
