How Accurate are the RPD - Reconfigurable Program Display

I have a stock 5 speed SS. Yet I notice my torque ratings going into the 280s range even though the car is rated for 260.

Im guessing the RPD is not perfectly accurate. Either that, or my the car really making more torque than it is rated for.

In any measurement process there can be errors in the equipment making the reading or a fluke in that one reading. If you ever do critical measurements, you need to take many readings to get the actual mean values of the test. Having done lots of critical measurement, you need to get maybe 40 readings to determine the mean and variability of the measurement.

I would guess it's not the RPD itself but the sensors that send the readings to it. My torque readings never go above 215ish.

I got some torque readings the other day that were always hitting 295. Thats off by almost 14%.

Maybe....just maybe the company under rated the numbers..or averaged them...same as they do with mil;age figures....also helps with ins rates..one would need to compare to a dyno run to know for sure...and as always..it will vary.

Would be real nice if my stock HHR SS was puting out more than stock ratings.

I know this was the case with my old 1991 Mazda MX6 turbo. It was way faster than it should have been and smoked many other MX6 and Ford Probe turbos.

did you buy the car new? if not maybe it is equipped with gms1. that's my guess. are any other rpd readings off???

RBodeman 12-27-2011 07:12 PM

Did not buy it new. It had 11,000 miles on it. It does not have the GM stage 1 because it does not have the sticker stating the upgrade in the engine bay nor at the fuel filler cap. In addition, the stage 1 would give even more power than I have per the read out.

Im getting torque of 290s when stock is 260. But stage 1 would be in the 320s I believe.

As for the other readings being off....I dont know. I know Air/Fuel is just about always around 14.5. Not sure of the others.
