If it were a code for underboost, we would be looking at the bypass solenoid as a possible culprit.
Hmm, I swear the docs listed them as wastegate and boost control but maybe I have it wrong. I get an overboost that goes into no boost protection. I still believe the issue is the solenoid controlling the wastegate. I just haven't figured out a way to catch it. I might pull it off and do an inspection for cracking. The wastegate and diaphragm are fine. I extended the hose out to check it for movement with a vac pump idling when the issue happens. Power cycling the key always clears the issue. Even the Tech 2 doesnt help me. Tricky little bastard!

But it appears both are available separately? I'll check them out.

Thumbs down

WOW - I just got off the phone w/ the Full Race " tech" line. wanted to talk to them about the boost control solenoid link that was provided on this thread. the guy was totally clueless - - he states they never heard from anyone w/ a hhr or a cobalt & he didn't know if the solenoid kit would work on our turbo. the link states it's for a EFR turbo & he didn't know if it would work w/ our k04 turbo. he asked if I'm sure if the electrical connector is the same? I told him a couple guys on this forum say it's a direct bolt in. any thoughts?

I just re-read the thread over at css. 2 people vouched that it was the same, and the OP came back and updated that the part fixed his problem(so that's 3). Late in the thread is mention of the pigtail being heat-damaged, and one of the 2 linked to the pigtail at Full-Race, but again stated that the old harness would plug into the new solenoid. The new pigtail is $9.

The thing with Full-Race, if they can't test the new part on an old turbo, they can't vouch for it. So unless BorgWarner tells them it's the same, they can't advise you to buy it.

If the Cobalt owners just ordered online, without talking to them, Full-Race wouldn't know what they were buying the part for.

Anyway, I think Terry just ordered one, so he should be reporting back soon, if you want to wait for a 4th confirmation.

I just got mine and will update once I can get it installed. It certainly looks right but that's far from working. :)

HOLY CRAP! I changed the oil on Saturday & tried to replace that solenoid. well, I can see it & touch it, but there is no way for me to get a pair of pliers in there to squeeze the hose clamps. everything is in the way - sway bar, control arm, firewall - - how the hell did anyone replace it on the car?

I did it from under the car, on ramps. I used long needlenose pliers. All 3 of the clamps broke effortlessly. You need to remove the air inlet hose first. I think I left some of the hoses on the solenoid and removed it as an assembly.
