SS ball joints
I was amazed to get a reply from Moog/Federal Mogul about my inquiry. I don't think they fixed the entire problem. Let me know. Here is a copy of what I got.
Hi Don,
I have updated the MOOG data so that RK620897, RK620898 & K80567 will have Fe1 & Fe3 Suspension qualifiers. The CK620302, CK620301, RK620301 & RK620302 will list Fe5 suspension. We will send these updates later in October.

They don't? Do you mean Cobalt FE5 is not the same as HHR FE5?

It has come to our attention that Moog and many other vendors are listing ball joints and Lower Control Arm Assemblies for Chevrolet HHR SS 2009-2011 incorrectly. The parts listed are for the LS/LT models and do not fit the SS model. The LS/LT models have RPO FE1 or FE3 suspensions, the SS model has RPO FE5 suspension; the major difference is the ball joint stud. FE1 and FE3 have a diameter of 19.96 mm the FE5 is 20.5 mm.
This is a major safety concern as Moog and other vendors are selling parts that “fit” but are too small to properly function. The ball joint can easily become disconnected from the steering knuckle and it allows .9mm of excess “wobble”.
The part numbers of concern are: K80567, RK620898,RK520897,CK620302,CK620301.
I would like to get a statement for publication on our website.

This is good news, at least they're working on it. Don, what are the chances they could supply the dimensions of the different ball joints, so we could narrow it down to which one is 20.5mm.................so close.

The 301/302 parts seem to be the 20.5mm; however they are steel.
I still have never heard number crunching arguments on either side. My personal belief is that they used aluminum for a reason, don't know what reason.
I doubt the eCatalog people have any access to measurements.
Maybe I am important? Real surprised it got bounced up and answered.

I just searched those 2 part numbers, they are for complete lower control arm assemblies. We still need to figure out what the part number is for the ball joint itself, not the whole assembly. They have to be getting them from somewhere, unless there is some reason that only riveted ball joints have to be used.
