Time for another cooling fan and/or module
2008 hhr ss 5 speed 123,000 miles This will be the third time I`ve changed the engine cooling fan and/or module. It seems most times for not much more money than just replacing the module I can changed the cooling fan and module with an AC Delco unit
My question is this, has anyone bypassed the module and wired the stock fan so that the fan runs full speed at all times?
Also, has anyone used an aftermarket cooling fan and wired the fan to run without the module?
Thanks!
Rick

We have 3 hhr ss`s. The 2008 automatic has had 3 AC Delco fan/modules replaced in the 150,000 miles we`ve had it. The 2009 5 speed has had Zero fan/modules replaced in the 80,000 miles we`ve owned it. The 2008 automatic has had 1 Dorman fan/modules and 1 AC Delco fan/modules in the 30,000 miles we`ve owned it. This is the hhr I think needs another module.
On the 5 setups that I have changed only one has been absolutely positively the fan itself as the fan was shaking the whole car when the fan was running. I`ve replaced the fan/module setups because the price is`nt that much different for the fan/module combination and just buying a fan module.
Guys, thanks again for the help!

I don't know why you couldn't put an after-market temp controller on it and discard the control signal from the ECM.
The control signal from the ECM is PWM to control the speed of the fan. So a plain relay would not work for long.
The module is just some sort of thyristor that you could replace for a few cents. Basically a NPN transistor and a PNP transistor.
