Upper Strut Mount Replace

Hi there. I have a general question on the replacement of the Upper Strut Mounts on the front end of my 08. Mine are worn and the struts were replaced around 20k miles ago so I think I can put just the Upper Mounts on pretty easy. I just want to make sure that I do not have to use a spring compressor to get the strut out and seperated from the upper mount. I believe that these are 2 different units. Does anyone know if I am right?
Thanks,

Yeah, you really need a spring compressor. Safest way is to remove the strut assembly to do this work.
Then, the big nut on top is the only thing that keeps the strut assembly togeather.

Disclaimer: Have heard of some leaving the upper strut plate bolted and removing the big nut to "release" the spring. I wouldn't advise it without the correct tools and know how.

need the correct tools to change the strut upper mount bearing plate, there is a lot of force in that spring if not handled correctly it will ruin your day!!

Thanks guys. I decided to do the Monroe quickstrut and be done with it. I thought that the quickstrut was seperate from the upper mount but it turns out that the upper mount is part of the quickstrut. Thanks for the replies.

You're welcome, good choice!
