Wow...the SS Manual Tranny Doesn't Like the Cold

I've always driven manual vehicles and I have to say the SS has the most cold natured gearbox of anything I've owned. It's in the teen's here (I know....nothing compared to some of you guys) and even after warming up for 5-10 minutes it's near impossible to get through the gears, 1st, 2nd and reverse in particular. After a couple miles of driving it finally loosens up, but dang it's nasty for the start of my commute. GM must have used their secret 200w gear oil in the SS:D Anyone noticed the SS tranny to particularly worse than other manual cars you've owned or could I be looking at a potential problem here?

They use southern gear oil in all the lower south states. Nobody expects it to get too cold there. :D

Non SS manual is shifting fine, but that chrome knob is very cold in the morning....

Daughter's bathroom pipes froze during the night. Didn't bust, guess they will stay turned on tonight.

Mine is the same way. I just take a little more care when shifting when it's cold.

I live in Michigan (where it's really cold) and have no problem shifting my manual SS when I first get in??
After many miles, I don't notice anything different... Mine has about 45K miles on it now, how new is yours?

My SS 5spd is smooth in the cold -10C (brand new only 1400Kms on the clock). You want a bad transmisson set up in the cold........my Mazdaspeed 3 was brutal, it would literaly not move aka frozen up (clutch and shifter below -10C) until the car was warmed up somewhat. It did not matter if you could not get the car into gear because you could not depress the clutch lol. My SRT4 was not much better.

Mine was a bit sticky this morning. It did warm up after awhile.

It has 29000 so definantly not still a "tight" gearbox.
