I have gen 2 with 235/40/18 on solstice wheels but needed to use spacers without rubbing. no problem with springs and no noise and stock shocks and struts

I have Gen II springs..yes on a "lift" the top of the springs can come loose but they don't fall out..what happens is the top has a 'knob' that the upper spring cup sets over, the spring cup will drop enuf to allow the spring to straighten out( the axle swings in a arc and tries to take the spring with ). just before setting back on the ground reach in and 'pop' the upper spring cup back over the knob and all is well...I tried jacking up one side only and there is enough pressure there to keep the spring from coming loose...so as far as a wicked pothole,,if you hit one that can pop a spring your going to have bigger issues then springs....be wary of the left side as its hidden behind the muffler and when it "looks" to be in place it may not be....

Woody-

I don't have GL's, but since the Gen 1 rear springs are shorter yet.

IIRC ? 2.25" drop would you agree that would make 'em looser yet, when body lifted at a shop ?

Are they shorter physically or just in drop height.......
And still, if properly installed they will not "fall" out, leave the vehicle..the bottoms are resistance fit, unless the design makes em loose....

Gary-

IDK ? Just seems if they bare shorter in height, with stock shocks they would get looser than the Gen II you have, in a lifted situation.

But what do I know ? I use Cobalt SS springs

I found out tonight that 225/45/18 rub the rear fender. I'm bummed.

Hmm, thats the same as factory ss tires, shouldnt be rubbing. What wheels are you using? I think anything less than 7.5in width and 42mm offset is fine.

I'm using 18" cobalt ss wheels and goldlines. It looks sick but rubs over bumps.

U still didn't say if its rubbing outside or inside ??

Inside = a shim could help.

outside = possibly a machine shop could mill a small amount off the mounting flange. (Tho that wouldn't be my first choice.)..
