Benjiwah Wheel Question
Benjiwah Wheel Question
I am looking at putting a set of wheels on my car that are the perfect aesthetic fit... Unfortunately, they are not the perfect pattern to fit. They are 5x112 but I don't think that the wobble bolts would work. Factory SS 18's have an offset of 42 and the wheels that I want have an offset of 48. This would certainly risk rubbing the inner fender wells. So starting with the 6 mm too far inward and using a 20 mm thick 5x110 to 5x112 wheel adapter would push the wheels outward by 14mm or .55 of an inch. Does anyone know if this would work without causing any front end issues?
You'd really have to mount one up temporarily to check for interference at full lock, and to see if the outer sidewalls foul on the inner fender lips, it's a pain to do...but worth the effort.
I don't think you will have many issues with the extra .55" of track.
If you put a ton of miles on it as your daily driver, the added stress on the hubs may cause them to fail earlier than normal.
The big thing to remember when using any spacers/adapters, is frequent checking and re-torquing of the spacers and rims. You'll double the number of fasteners on each corner, if they back off on you, your day will just go downhill fast.

I guess a more simple way to pose the question would've been to ask if 28mm offset would work for an HHR. LoL
But you're right Mike, the best way to find out would be to try them on first... I just didn't want to drop coin on something I have to order and have shipped only to try to return them later.
And you're also right about the hub bearings being stressed more. I think the look would almost justify replacing the hubs sooner rather than later though...
Ah the insanity of vanity... Lol

How wide are the wheels?
How wide are the tires?
I have seen that kind of offset fit, but the wheels may poke out past the fenders. The tires may have to be narrower than the wheels to prevent rubbing. A friend of mine has something like that on his cobalt. A +22 offset with 9.5" in front and 10.5" in back, so wheels are quite wide. Tires are 225 and 245.

your friend's car also has a very poor fitment on his car. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean it's right.
A optimum fitment for a 245 tire is an 8" wheel and a 225 is less than that. With fitment like that, cars look absolutely horrible and are unsafe at speed.
I've been running solstice wheels( 55 offset) with 255x40 tires. Used the 15mm hub centric spacer from H&R, spendy but they have been flawless.
Dont think I would trust the double bolt spacers, but I have no experience with them.

The wheels I am looking at are 18x8's with a 48mm offset. Stock SS HHR wheels are the same size with a 42mm offset. With 20mm adapters the wheels would only stick out 14mm (or.55 of an inch) more than a stock SS. I am planning to go with 235/40-r18 tires which is the closest diameter possible to the stock tires size for my 2007 LT. No speedometer calibration needed. Does anyone have experience with going 1/2 inch farther outward on an HHR?
