I owned the death explorer with firestones prior to working for Firestone, so i got to experience the vehicle and see the back side of how it was handled. Firestone took it on the chin since Ford decided to cram too much SUV on a ranger chassis. When they rode like crap, they drop the tire pressure on an already top heavy vehicle. After I got my recall tires swapped for some goodyears, I noticed it rode worse than what it did. They also put a new placard on the door jam showing the higher pressure.

Did you know that those same DOT#'s were OE on some nissans and toyota trucks during those years? I don't believe those were recalled!

Let's not forget that there are recalls all the time for nearly all tire manufacturer's for issues like Firestone went through.
