I got screwed...

For the second time, my left front tire had a screw imbedded in it. I have a 2008 with only 28,000 miles and picked up screws on two different occasions.

The first one about a year ago went through but didn't loose air pressure. Luckily I was washing the car and saw it, and it must have just recently happened. A tire shop patched it and its been fine. Today, another screw, this one didn't go through but had the tire shop remove it just in case. I was driving slow and heard the distinctive "thump, thump" and knew something was stuck on the tire.

How many of you have also picked up screws or nails, and how frequently has tire damage happened to you?

The summer of 2011 was marked with 7 trips to have nails removed from various tires, new roofs installed on neighboring condos left an obstacle course.

Last August I destroyed two new Continental tires when I couldn't dodge a chunk of steel on I-85, that one hurt the wallet.

But as long as the tires are repaired correctly, they'll perform as new, just remember that any speed rated tires loose their rating and revert to a standard "P" rating of 93mph sustained max.

I have had plenty of screws thruought the years. But my favorite thing to find in my tire was a key. Yes you read that correctly. I had a key take out my right rear tire many many moons ago. I thought it to be very strange and asked the tire shop how that could even possibly happen. The guy said it probably got kicked up by my left front tire and bounced a few times until it got ran over by the rear tire. It went in at the inner edge and was not repairable.

How about a pair of Craftsman needle nosed pliers, still have 'em in the toolbox. Yeah, the tire was absolutely trashed.

I had to have a bolt removed from my wife's tire. The tire tech hand to unscrew the nut to get the bolt out.

My mother had the large part of a cresent wrench pulled out of her Michelin tire years ago. I don't know how such a lerge hunk of metal could get into that tire. I've been lucky with the HHR, no flats after seven years.

I had a Allen wrench/key get jammed in my tire a few years back when I had my cobalt. Of course I had the tunes cranked up and didn't feel or hear anything until the tire was coming apart....

It's not fun putting a "get me home" tire on, on the side of the thruway at 8:15 am....rush hour is pretty intense when you are on the shoulder of a three lane highway

Tells me that whomever is hauling their trailers with the waste in them from roofs/siding, is not tarping off properly. I always pull mine tarps taut and use more bungees than I need to. Not only out of respect for other drivers, but, I don't want to get hit by the DOT for improperly secured load.

in the lst 6 months I've had to replace two tires from running over junk on the highway
