Let's talk tires.
 

I am coming up to needing 4 new tires. Mine have all but had it, the d/r is the only stocker I have left, lasted me 78k so far! Front two are cheapies from wally world I bought when I was in a pinch. The p/r is a 6 yr old good year I have had in storage, that I used in another pinch.

What I need: smooth, QUIET ride and optimal wet handling. It rains a lot around here, and hard. streets are prone to hold water in a lot of areas. But really above all, I will take smooth and quiet if I can't have both.

Who is running what?

Goodyear Eagle GT......

I currently have a set of Dunlop Signature's on my HHR - so far they are doing quite well in wet/snow weather conditions, they are decently quite, and I am happy with the handling.

At around 28,000 I had to replace my original stock Firestones and I did so with Goodyear TripleTread tires (never do that again). In the beginning they were a great tire - quite, excellent handling, and superb traction. However, as the tires wore, they steadily got worse - noise level increased to unbearable, traction faded, and wet/snow handling suffered immensely. I had to get them replaced and was given a credit from Goodyear for Premature Tire Wear. A lot of the road noise was due to the edges of the tires feathering - always happens with directional tires.

What's the deal with Goodyear Eagle GT? I have heard some good things on this forum about them. I guess that they perform very differently depending upon size and vehicle. Are they good in rain on the HHR? How about mileage wear? Based upon my past experience with them, I'm apprehensive. But I never tried them out on an HHR.

I say this because I had first hand experience with Goodyear Eagle GTs, but on a different vehicle. The car I had before my HHR was a Cadillac CTS. I got 20,000 miles out of the rear and 25,000 miles out of the front. They handled extremely well for sports driving in dry weather, but I had no faith in them in wet weather. The Eagles on my CTS were from 2005, so maybe there was a redesign?

There's been a re-design.... They probably shouldn't have called the new tire an Eagle GT as the name carries a "bad vibe"

I've got two sets, 225/50/ZR17 and 225/55/R16...... The 16's are on my Euromax 612's and for summer/"show"..... 17's on the factory polished Aluminum wheels. Both are excellent, but I can't talk about long term, haven't had them that long. The 16's come with 50,000 mile warranty though. (They don't give a mileage warranty on the Z rated 17's)

Several others on the forum have them and so far they have liked them...... no body that has them on the HHR has given them a bad mark.

they did redesign it couple members have them and like them fine continental DWS good tire Goodyear F1's best tire I've had in the rain and it does that on a grand scale here.:smile:

I put Michelin Hydro Edge tires on my wife's car some years ago and was very impressed with their performance on wet roads. I put four of them on my HHR a month ago, and am equally impressed. The HHR which was, I thought, always squirrley in wet weather is now very stable on wet surfaces. My only complaint might be the cost, but Costco sells them, which helps a bit. I noticed there was a bit of tire noise on the first set I bought, but the ones on the HHR are practically silent. As far as wear, my wife's have about 45,000 on them, and they look no more worn then the ones I just put on the HHR.

I decided to give our economy a little shot in the arm boost today and had some good ol' made in the USA BF Goodrich G-Force SuperSport A/S tires mounted on the HHR. So far the ride is great and very low road noise.

The last set of tires were Nitto Neo's and only lasted 21,500K miles. Handled great but too soft for my liking. I need more miles to the $$$. The BFGs have a six year warranty.

the Kumho Solus SH16 225/50/17 that I just put on are awesome!!

I will be getting new shoes, this week, depending on price and what Discount tire has in stock. These 4 tires have to last me another 400 miles, to make it to Ft Worth, that's all I'm asking.
