i agree If you have never had a luxury tire, it does make a hell of a difference. the onces the hhr come with are better than most standard gm tires ive seen, so im not going to upgrade till i have to.

 

I wish this thread had been around a couple months ago. I find the Firehawks to be very rigid sidewall and great handling in dry.

I replaced mine with Falken Ziex - much better ride, quieter, way better wet grip. I can tell the sidewalls aren't as stiff as the Firehawks around really hard cornering (I have a TT Sway Bar) but overall I like them.

May I ask, which model Ziex did you buy? There appears to be several different Ziex number models. Less road noise and a softer ride are at the top of my next tire decision tree. My 2LT stiffer suspension could use some "refining". :-) I have also read that the Yokohama Avid series is good, and I am wondering if anyone has direct experience with these as well? mine have 41,000 miles.
i need to replaced them.
might have to do it before the winter.... would like to wait but... oh well.
they been rotated every 6,000 miles..... i just dont think they wore good.... dont think i will replace with the same.

 

mind handle pretty bad in snow and even rain they can have trouble getting traction. Only 16k on them.

I want to replace them with something all around better and something better for snow since we get some here and i travel to Michigan a lot, but figured i would wait and use them while i could, save some money for now.

 

Go with Michelin if you want a cadillac ride. Gonna pay for it, but you definately get what you pay for when it comes to tires.

 

I ended up with the Kumho Slus KH16 tires at a little over $100 each. I love them. They ride really well, are quiet, and do well in monsoons. Ultimate grip on dry pavement? It's hard to compare. They grip well enough for me in both cornering and stopping. I hope this helps someone. God Bless, Marc

 

The Firestones are ok, not great, but I'll live with them until they wear out. When that happens, four new Michelin Hydro Edge tires go on it. Put those on my wifes car, some years ago, and have been very impressed with them. Since they are rated as a 90,000 mile tire, I will only have to buy them once for that car.

 

For the first time last year for the winter I put on a set of Michelin X ICE 2. What a difference I have been driving for 38 years and never had winter tires. All I know is now I have to buy a set for the wife's car for this winter, if you spend the money for them you wont regret it. I live out in the country in the thumb of Michigan and the roads don't get plowed to fast. On the hard packed snow and ice you can actually feel the tires grab instead of sliding and skidding. I wish I had anti lock brakes.
