hello everyone..
here is a picture of my rims and i have these "pits" or "flakes" happening.
I had them refinished earlier this summer and now this is happening and when I went back to them they said refinishing has no warranty..so i pretty much paid them $700 for nothing

is this just the clear coat maybe flaking off? not sure what to do really..maybe get them re-cleared? or just powder coat them?

 

Because you had them refinished, it would be hard to say what the problem is.......but, it does appear to be clear coat.

 

Looks like the clear coat is lifting, not prepped very well, so that constitutes warrenty, bad prep work caused adhesion problems. call the BBB and report 'em $700.00 is a load of cash for this to happen.

 

They put a layer of plastic film coating to describe it best. That peels eventually over time. I was always told your better off buying a new set of aftermarket rims, then getting your originals re-coated. The price isn't to much different.

 

how much is powdercoating rims these days? thinking of maybe just doing that instead

 

Not sure about powdercoating costs up your way. The problem I see is, you will need to strip the old clearcoat. Between stripping and powdercoating it could become quite costly.

 

I have a guy down here in Niagara who will PC them for you, its the stripping that is the issue, I hot tanked my steel rims to strip all the paint off but that is not an option for aluminum rims, if you want to get a quote up there to strip them , we can meet half way or you can come down to have them PC'd clear or whatever color you choose fro his color chart. Skyline26 do you have another set of rims and tires to run while all this is done?

 

i would do this during the winter months when i have my winter rims/tires on

 

did some digging around and found a couple of places around $250 for just powdering over the existing condition..or about $400 to sandblast and pc + either 1 or 2 clear coats
