Stock Black steel 5-spoke wheels
Hey gang. This is my first post, so bear with me.
My HHR has the 5-spoke steel rims with the plastic alloy-look wheel covers. I pulled the plastic covers, thinking about repainting them. But I have seen a lot of HHRs rolling on the stock black rims, and I really kinda like the look of them. My only beef is the bare hubs in the center of the rims, especially on the front wheels with the spindle sticking out. Anyone out there have an idea/solution of something to cover the center hubs while still using these stock steel rims? Thanks!!! |
:welcome8: to the forum!
Center caps for "Steelies" as they're known here are a real bugger, try our Search function for Center Caps and you'll find assorted solutions. Most folks will spice things up with chromed lugnuts, maybe trim rings, but center caps require fabrication, imagination, and patience. |
A can of black spray paint works on mine.

Thanks for the welcome, and the tips. I've been playing around on PhotoShop, and I may end up doing a custom paint job on the wheel covers. Still undecided.

As stated, your easiest solution is to paint the hubs...or paint the hubcaps & rock those. I roll the bare steelies on mine, as I much prefer the look to hubbies. Although, the paint fades quickly on them, so wax, or plasti-dip can help keep the surface looking decent (guilty of letting them fade).. |

What is 'plasti-dip', and why does it help with the look of the wheels? |

May I suggest if you do paint the rims and the hubs use a high heat paint like black Bar-B-Q paint or any color engine paint, I used Duplicolor engine paint,(Chrysler Hemi Red)for my stock steelies they have not faded in 4 years of winter use !

ya know those wheels are like the wheels on the police cars......there were some Malibu police cars and the had little hubcaps.................
maybe worth a trip to the dealer to see whats available |
I believe police cars are Impala's which have a different bolt circle then Malibu's or HHR's 5 on 110 mm but a through check at local pic a part may result in some covers
