I've taken them off and put them back on myself before. I had no problem. But then again, I don't have some stupid 45 minute guarantee to complete any job I do.

on a side note...

Oh, and the dealership fixed the clunking noise. It was a pair of "insulator", GM part number 20902784, aka the infamous bushing. It was done under an extended service plan, with $0 deductible.
