The height should be OK but that is a wide tire and you may have to use spacers and have issues hitting fenders. Especially when lowered.
My tires are 225-45-18 which are 25.97 tall and just barely clear the bottom of the strut when using .217 spacers. The tires will hit inner fender well when making a full lock turn.
The 245-45-17 is considerably wider 9.6 vs 8.85 so it may not work.

So. Hurst2001. This is like the 3rd different thread that you've posted up the same basic question about tire sizes. Is there a reason for repeating your question? Are we not answering you the way you want ?
Advice was given to try out the tire size calculator. Advice was also given about the max height tire you can put on a HHR.
You didn't bother to respond back to your previous posts and the answers given to you. If you don't understand, then take it to a tire shop.

And, fwiw. This last post you put up is in a 5 year old thread. Doubt you'll get answers from members that haven't been on the site lately.

Another fwiw. According to the tire size calculator, 225/60/16's won't fit.

ok Jim I am confuse a little some guys say you can fit a 225/60/16 and yes I did use the calculator and it is the height that will not work? I mean I see the ss use 17 inches or 18 and I am sure the wheel wells are the same .. So yes I should of kept it to one thread my bad but trying options and trying to get eduction on the subject so take it easy so I can figure it out .. Nobody is a pro in all directions but thanks too this site for info

Jim ? Who's Jim ?

Anyhow. Maximum tire heighth (tallness) before the tires rub on the HHR struts is 26.3".

215/60/16 = 26.16"
225/60/16 = 26.63"

Fwiw. People running 17 or 18 inch rims is a mute point. It's the size of the TIRE that is on the rim that matters.
A 225/45/18 is a shorter tire than a 225/60/16.

Yep, it's the OVERALL DIAMETER you need to limit, or you will rub your struts. That would be why one would use the online calculator, along with info from tire stores to figure this out...

If 25.8 is shorter than 26.3, then.................

225/55/16's ?? Thought you wanted to know about 60 series tires.

Here's a thought. Put on the same size that it came with.
Not really sure why you're asking about different sizes. You haven't stated any reasons for wanting to change from the factory recommended size.

The only reason I was going with different tire size is because I am on the fence of buying new or used because my hhr is close to 200000 miles that is why? It like dam if I do dam if I dont

IMHO, buy new tires, even at 200k...you really don't want or need someone else's problems. And that's exactly what used tires are.

Besides, you can get cheap brand new tires of the Korean made, "Mystery Brand" type for $45-$60 each in the 215/55/16 size.

They'll come with a warranty of some kind, you'll have the full tread depth to use up, and you'll know that they haven't been curbed or potholed like used tires...which can make them like ticking time bombs.

Plus, an HHR with 200,000 miles on it is far from knackered, says the guy with a 319,000 mile daily driver.
