I'll add another recommendation for the Goodyear Tripletreds. I bought a set back in September and they have been great. I put them to the winter driving test this last week and they passed. I was able to get up snowy and icey hills that other cars were stuck on and sliding backwards and they were also able to get me up hills that I previously could not go up with the Firestones in previous winters.

It is an excellent tire.

I love my BFG's. It's rained a bunch here & these tires shrug it off & provide good traction. Waitnig for the snow later in this area. Wont be much but the ground will be frozen. Will be looking forward to having front wheel drive this year with my HHR. My old Nissan truck used to slide all over the place here in winter.

I have the Goodyear Eagle GTs on my '06 since August of this year. Great tire with minimal noise and pretty good wet/snow traction. Not as sharp as the Firehawks but overall I am happy with them.

Well I made my decision. After checking around with four different tire dealers, and several web sites we went with a Toyo called the Versado LX. They are very quiet so far. A little on the pricey side but so far seem good. I am waiting until it snows and we get more miles on it before I make a recommendation on them. I'll admit I am a bit skeptical because I have never used Toyo tires.

When the time comes, I will replace with Michelin Hydroedge. Put those on my wife's car several years ago, can't attest as to their performance in snow, but they are one tenacious tire on wet roads, and resist hydroplanning like no other tire I have ever owned. They are a directional tread, so can not be cross rotated!

i did that from day one on my 07 ...... 24 months later and 44,000 miles needing to replace

We had a pretty good snow dump here so I'm currently driving on snow & ice. My BFG tires get pretty good traction. Love that front wheel drive! Need a bit more ground clearance though. Scraping my front spoiler, running boards & rear valance on snow piles. Hopefully nothing gets broken.

Ouch style I hope we don't get that much snow this year. I guess snow is better than the ice we usually get though.

HHR4JK... That is a good looking ride. That looks like the one we bought. Gotta love the black with the chrome wheels and grill.

just the thread i was looking for. My wife said she wants new tires on the HHR so guess who is buying new tires...?

i really don't know jack sh*t on tires and basically can go by tirerack reviews etc. that's about all i got. When i got new tired on the aveo i prety much had 3 options since they didn't have many that size in stock. but the hhr is a bit different.

So, i mean, the basics, what KIND of tire do I want/need? performance all season, ultra performance all season, touring? i have no clue. I need it good in snow since we drive up to Michigan a lot and i don't think they know what a snow plow is in my town in Indiana.

how do i know if they are a bit more low profile. i like that look on the hhr and would like to not have giant tires

The triple tread reviews look mixed. A lot of people love them and a lot of people said they lost performance fast as they wore. Wish they weren't 166 each.

I liked the look of the BF GS super sport AS, but they don't seem to last that long for people.

Eagle GT's look pretty good, 135 isn't bad. How noisy are they. my OEMS seems crazy loud.

So yeah not trying to threadjack either, but just really have no knowledge of tires.

Wondering if i should go out tonight and tomorrow and get some new ones put on, heading up to Michigan for the holidays. What do they do with my old tires? I only have 17k on them?

I like to keep the wife happy.

Twist, as far as type, you want ALL SEASON tires unless you plan on getting a dedicated set of winter tires that will need to be replaced in the summer months.
As far a size goes, try this link: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp
Put your stock size in first and then try the other sizes you want to try and make sure they are close in sixe.
As for the old tires go, they will charge you a diposal fee of $2 each

Good luck on your quest.
