Tires on the SS
SO if "buy American" wasn't a factor.... If you just want the best tire, which tire then?
"consumer search", which compiles ratings from several sources, says Michelin Pilot Sport Ps2 is the best tire choice. I've had good luck with Michelins.... I think that will be my tire choice. But I still have several thousand kilometres to go....

You buy an older design it is like buying a car that has been in production for a long time. It may not be bad but it will never be as good as the newest design.
The other fact is many of the tire companies copy one another. Just for example the Goodyear Triple Tread was the first tire with this style tread and now with accept for a few minor changes Michelin and a couple other companies have a near copy. They all do it and some times they get caught. Continental/General lost a big law suit here in town when it was leaked that General copied a Goodyear design. It cost them a lot of money.
You can buy what ever country you like but it is sad we only have two major American tire companies left that make street tires.
In fact because of that they just passed a tax on the imports that will add 30% most tires and will even hurt the price of the domestic tires too. Just what we needed in a economic down turn. The companies will just spread the cost to all tires made here and in China.
I have family and friends that either have worked or still work for most of the major tire companies. Also my old job was working with these companies. Right now they are all in a world of hurt as they may have raised the prices on the tires but with the increase in oil and other raw materials profits are still tought to come by.

I had some Toyo's on a used car I bought and they were a good tire.
I just live in a area where you see what the imports have reall hurt.
I am just glad I am not a third gen tire company employee and my present job has nothing to do with the industry.
Hey people. It's easy to get going on what does what to where, with the economy the way it is.Let's face it,we all have our own consciences, and have to go with that.Anyway, with the tire issue.I have a 2009 SS,and live in Northern Indiana. If ya look at the weather channel,I get hit pretty hard, and often with the white s---.I have to change out these stock 18's.They just won't get it in the white stuff. After reading what all have put in,and being from "past",I wanna go with the retro look rims, and the 16" A/S tires. If it wasn't for my Chevy 4X4,I would have to stare at the "war dept." all winter long!I like the smoothies from Summit, the caps, and rings.like one of the other guys has posted.
