They "Discount Tires" say 245's will fit the HHR SS

 

I'm going to 245's. I've measured the area behind the wheel and had plenty of room with stock wheels.

 

So with 245-40's we gain a little bigger foot print for grip, any other advantages over 225-45's? I do know the wider tire weighs on avg 1 lb more then the same comparable tire in a 225-45.

 

I've also heard a number of good things about the Pilot Sport PS2, seems like a good choice, if pricey. Some of the mags have said the Yokohama Advans have great grip/handling, I can't remember which model specifically, though.

 

The gas is pricey, the oil is pricey... tires may as well be too, eh? I'm surprised that it doesn't use special pricey air in the tires too!

haha... I'm all about the metric... except for boost! What the heck is a kiloPascal??? Give me non-metric PSI, at least for that one thing!

Our fuel mileage (kilometrage???) is measured in litres per hundred kilometres (L/100km). I like that....

 

One of the things I think we all are in the need of is grip. We seem to all have at least the stage kit so 225's won't do. The stock tires aren't that great because I even spin in 2nd. I like having wider tires also because of the handling it will increase. I will be going with nittos with a 280 wear rating. I know it won't last as many miles as stock but I don't put many miles on my vehicle anyways.

There are a lot of great choices for the HHR SS for sure:)

 

They have the special air its called Nitrogen...OK OK let's get back on the real topic here. Tires and size....ON THE SS. Im either doing the 245's/45/18 or the 225/40/18. But which one so far I havent figured out. Which one do yall like out of these?

Out of those you listed the General Exclaim UHP are one on my list also they got good reviews for a cheap tire.

If you haven't looked at the Sumitomo HTR Z III, you might want to give those a good read, they were rated #1 over some more expensive tires in there segment. One of the cheapest also.

Have you thought about a wider tire?
Like camaro98z28 had said Discount list all the tires that will fit the HHR SS, and 245/40-18 will fit the stock rim. Should give you a bigger foot print than stock and because the tire size isn't popular it should be cheaper.
According to the wheel calculator, 245/40-18 is Speedometer Difference: 1.011% too fast

Stock: 60mph
245/40-18: 60.6 mph 101. km/h

Stock Section Width: 8.85 in 225 mm
225/40-18 Section Width: 9.64 in 245 mm
