And the tires weren't even a month old...!

Recently bought a set of B.F.Goodrich tires and yesterday the better half nails a pothole-and bends the rim. How she made it home-a full 20 mile trip-I'll never understand. She said the TP warning light came on about 3 miles from house. Won't know whether the tire is shot until Monday. I'm hoping that since it took that long to deflate that the damage to the wheel is not terminal. Just checked some e-bay prices on the wheel and almost had a heart attack-$350 for a used #5428?! WTH? If I'd known I was riding around on a gold mine in wheels I'd have sold them off long ago!

Thanks-that's a much better price than I've been able find so far but I have the 5 spoke chromed wheels... ...but I did find these on ebay: item #273377494862 black painted 17 inch steel wheels @ $85 each. May go this route if the tire can be saved and I can't find an exact replacement for the bent wheel.

BTW, they got 16 inch steelies, too @ $56 each!

For tires, I'd recommend making sure the Date of Manufacture (date code) is very recent.

Go to a local yard where you pick the parts. last month I got a 17" factory alloy for $27.50 plus a $16.00 core charge. They are in real good shape. Just be careful of which corner you pick. This one was hit in the front but no damage extended into the wheelwells.

So I took it to the tire shop today. Some good news-the tire is still usable. They then proceeded to bang and whack on the bent rim as much as possible-got the leak lessened considerably but it still leaks. They referred me to a wheel shop in Atlanta. Going there tomorrow- $150 plus a two hundred mile round trip. And if I get there before 2, they'll fix it whilst I wait.

Junk yards aren't real common in these parts and the few that are-usually don't let you pick yer own... Of course, a few days later after I get this taken care of, I fully expect to find an exact replacement for $10, or even less... ...it's just my luck. The last set of new tires I put on this car hadn't been on two weeks when I picked up a nail and then a flat on a long trip that required a large patch. I'm getting kinda used to it-it's only been like this for years!

UPDATE: Here is what I'm looking for : Hollander #05428 17X6 1/2, 5 Single Spoke, Chrome (Opt P23)

So I decided to try the few local yards around here just in case. No joy, but... ...one got me to the Hollander site where I found several-the closest yard with the correct wheel is 75 miles away and has 2 "like-new" ones for $75 each! Well, things are finally looking up!
