what about Michelin LT/X
on a HHR?
I was just perusing Tirerack.com and found this 17 inch size Size: 215/50R17 LRR: Michelin Total Performance Sidewall Style: Blackwall Sidewall Shown: Outlined White Letters Load Range: XL Serv. Desc: 95H UTQG: 720 A A Fit should not be a problem but as these have long been considered a "truck tire" I wonder just how well they'd do on our 'MPV's as Chevy calls them in the owner's manual. Am somewhat tempted to try a set as the UHP all seasons (Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 ) I've bought in the past seem to last just about or slightly over a year. Liked the tire-especially in the rain, but it just does not last long enough. One other consideration: I live in extreme NE Georgia where there are still some decent-and fun-mountain 2 lanes. Am wondering if these 'truck tires' could handle some of the spirited driving available in the area? (which likely helps explain the longevity problem I had above...:duh::duh: My 2004 Z-71 does OK around here on Firestone ATs but could never hang with the HHR in the curves, nor outbrake it-no matter what tire it had on it. So that's pretty much useless for comparison purposes What do you guys think? Anybody here ever run truck tires on their HHR before? |
LT designates a (usually) 6 ply rating. Poor wear, hard ride, hard sidewall.
I hated LT tires on my old Toyota P/U. |
The old Michelin LTX's were great tires. Got 95k miles out of my last set on my truck. My current set has about 45k and only show about 1/3 wear. Good ride and traction.
The LTX line was updated a couple years ago. Not sure if they are as good a tire as they used to be. |
There are 8 versions of LTX Michelins ... Which one are you talking about??
|
these ones: Michelin Defender LTX M/S

I hated LT tires on my old Toyota P/U. No, these aren't rated as LT tires, just load range XL just noticed they're white letter sidewalls too that might well be a deal breaker- I prefer blackwalls yeah, I could turn them around but why pay for something you don't want and then bother with having to hide it? |
checking Michelin's website:
Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires | Michelin US shows them available in two versions: 215/50R17 91H and 215/50R17 XL 95H (version Tirerack sells) and the gallery shows them as blackwall... |
Not on my HHR, but I had these Michelin LTX M/S on my truck. They are good highway tires. Smooth and quiet, and wears well.
