HHR SS vs Escalade

So when I pulled up to the light I was not expecting this guy to try and race me. Probably a little less than a quarter mile ahead his lane had to merge into mine before getting on the highway. So i'm sitting there at the light and I see this guy peering out his window at my car. He's a middle aged guy and I can tell he's one of those guys who is better than everyone cuz he's drivng a cadillac. The Escalade appears to be pretty new, possibly on 08. Light turns green and this guy stomps on it and I wasnt expecting it so before I could get the throttle to the floor the whole way he already had about a 2 car jump. Now I honestly was expecting to pull right by this guy but it took til about 60 for me to pull even with him and then about 75 to get my back bumper in front of his front bumper. I could tell he was pissed cuz getting onto the highway I was doing 110 and I could tell he hadnt given up yet. I was still pulling and finally let off at 120 and he flew by me. I don't race often but this was definately one of the more surprising close races i've had in the HHR. The Escalades have to weigh at least 5000 lbs so I was expecting them to be quite a bit slower than what this one was. Looking on Cadillac's website though i see they are 400+ HP and do 0-60 in 6.5. Not too bad.

I borrowed my date's aunt's escalade for prom way back when, and that thing could haul a$$. I was a little easy on it since it wasn't my car and all, but we opened it up on the expressway with another friend of ours who was in his uncle's corvette. I know he was taking it easy too, but eventually i got by him when he got boxed in by some traffic. Especially happy that we didn't get caught since we were doing well over 100, and that area of the highway was 55.

I have an Escalade LQ9 block in my GTO. It's a great motor, but 5000 Lbs is still 5000 Lbs.

GVWR on an Escalade should be higher than 5000, more like 7000lbs for the standard, whereas the ESV, and EXT are closer to 7200lbs. If I remember correctly it's AWD as well. My Avalanche is a big Bit**, but the 5.3 ( Caddys have a 6.0, or 6.2 in the newer ones ) has the bottom end to move it.

GVWR is NOT the weight of the vehicle.....or is it?

Going to work at 11:30pm on the weekends, I get these little rice rockets that pull up beside me and rev it daring me to a race. I once rolled down my window telling them 'that they weren't worth the wasted gas', and I floored it (I got the jump on them) on the green light. It's not what you have, but how you use it!
