Still a little surprising
On the way home, I found myself about a quarter mile behind my wife's '11 Cruze (1.4 turbo), and thought I'd give Herman ('06 2LT, 2.4) a little goose to catch up.
So, at speeds approaching the limit on my speedo, I passed her handily... as we were only a mile from our exit, she wasn't able to make up the difference soon enough to catch up by then. (yeah, here's an example of "what not to do")
While I know suspension/performance technology has come a long way in the last few decades, it's still amusing how this boxy little wagon handles so well at speeds that had my old '89 Camaro feeling a bit light and not-real-solid. The HHR just hunkers down and powers on.
Now, It's been decades since I sold the Camaro, and my memory might be a little rusty, but all the same...
these underappreciated little wagons ain't half bad.

My throttle to the floor and see where it takes me moment occurred almost 2 years ago in northwest NE on a long stretch with only the prairie chickens and possibly the NSA (via drone) to witness what I was up to. With a cornering tailwind of 10-15 mph, I thought the handling was exciting enough around 92 to not explore beyond that.

A trait sometimes lost in the background noise of "The Great Recall Debacle", is that these little trucklets are quite capable of Haulin' the Mail.
As toolbender noted, there are times when their handling can become a touch entertaining, but I've found that an HHR on performance rubber can be a thing of joy on a twisty back road.
And although our members with SS's are loathe to admit it at times, a normally aspirated HHR will get down the highway at extra-legal speeds, and there are times when 115-119 mph is quite enough.

Coming from Homely Depot I jumped om the highway goin along with a 69 Z-28 behind meas I pulled to the right lane to let the Z go by he stayed the same speed...Coming to a entrance ramp I see cars coming up...I looked to see him go be....he stayed there I just said skrew this I,m not gonna sit back and gave it a little...so did he that was it we both stomped on it......................I pulled in front with plenty of room 5,6 car lengths he was in my rear mirror over a bill
