View Full Version : Surprise!
Yonash 08-10-2008, 08:21 PM well, shipping tracker said it would be here Friday, then it said it got delayed, so expect it Monday. Friday evening, i hear my sister yell from the kitchen "UPS truck is here" so i look at my dad, ask him what he ordered now (he's always upgrading his computer and stuff), he says nothing, and i know all i'm expecting is my exhaust from ADM. surprise! my cat-back is here! pictures and a couple video clips coming soon, gotta take the time to resize and upload and such. got it all installed, pretty easy too. ended up just taking a sawz-all to my stock cat-back right in front of the rear suspension since it's all one piece form the downpipe to the tip. gotta say, i love the sound, and the fitment is spectacular! took a little Never-Dull to the tip to clean it up nice and shiny, and it sounds wonderful! not all ricey, just a healthy tone, and moderate volume. haven't gone out of town yet since install, so i don't know about possible drone at higher speeds, but in town it's just noticable inside while driving. behind the car, it's just a lovely deep sound.
ADM, :thumb: :one: :thumb: wonderful cat-back!
Chevy SS 08-10-2008, 08:36 PM I think I speak for all of us SS owners when I say, Video clip now! :)
Can't wait to hear it!
Yonash 08-10-2008, 08:46 PM working on uploading vids as i type, and pics just went into the gallery. though, advanced notice, i don't have any cameras that are super great with sound, but my video clips don't sound too bad. i will try to find a friend with a better camera for sound, and get a little acceleration video going. my vids are of the exhaust off, just the cats (had to do it lol, sounds INCREDIBLE), and the new exhaust, since we all pretty much know what they sound like now with the stock exhaust.

pic credits go to my fiancee, which can be seen in the reflection on the door in at least one of the videos. she loves taking pics, so i usually let her take care of that part. gotta say though, the install would have taken forever without her help. she may not be a mechanic, or even know too much about cars, but her aid with holding lights and wiggling exhaust hangers off posts and such, is utterly invaluable.
vids will be posted as soon as they're done uploading.
z28nate 08-10-2008, 08:56 PM hurry hurry hurry:nuts:
Yonash 08-10-2008, 08:58 PM videos are in!
this one was taken halfway through the install, when there was no exhaust under there. wish i had a camera that could capture the sound better, it sounds amazing! and it is quite loud.
have a watch here (http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/greenmonster187/HHR/?action=view¤t=ss-open.flv)
and this one is with the cat-back installed. sounds really good for what this camera is capable of, so keep that in mind.
you be the judge (http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/greenmonster187/HHR/?action=view¤t=SS-ADM.flv)
chadpuska 08-10-2008, 09:03 PM So on the SS there is no resonator or is just really small?
Yonash 08-10-2008, 09:04 PM it's just small. look at the first pic, that's the stock exhaust. see the little bulge near the flange end? yeah, that's it. more of a resonating growth, or a tumor lol.
z28nate 08-10-2008, 09:05 PM how much for the cat back?
sounds f'n sweet man!
chadpuska 08-10-2008, 09:09 PM Man the resonator on the non SS HHRs are huge.
Yonash 08-10-2008, 09:15 PM total after shipping i paid $385, but that's because it was ADM's prototype. basically it's what they used in creating what they plan to sell. it is also slightly used, but only 500 miles on it. that's why it's already black inside the tip in the last picture. overall, VERY pleased, and would deal with ADM again in a heartbeat.
That sounds grrrrrrreat!

ivtech 08-10-2008, 11:46 PM Sounds good Chris.
hogwild 08-10-2008, 11:56 PM Does the ADM have a resonator? Why or why not? What size of Magnaflow muffler is being used? Im here in Cali too, so Im very interested to hear more of your impressions of this catback.
Yonash 08-11-2008, 12:25 PM no resonator, IMO it doesn't need one, the sound is perfect. as far as muffler size, i will be double checking the bolts at the flange within the next couple days, so i need to put it up on the ramps for that, and i can bust out the tape measure and get dimensions for you if you'd like while it's up anyways.

Tip is a good fit for the bumper opening!
stick 08-11-2008, 10:37 PM Sound very nice. :thumb: I also just love the way black cars give that mirror image of anything and everything around. You don't just see your girl, but the grass and trees behind her. Sweet.
Yonash 08-11-2008, 10:45 PM Tip is a good fit for the bumper opening!
indeed it is! i'll try to get a side shot soon to show how far it sticks out, it really does fit amazingly well. i'll get to see tonight if there is any drone at highway speeds. so far in town it doesn't sound like it has increased interior sound very much. obviously it has a little, but i'll let you all know tomorrow how it sounds going faster.

surprise again! it's a Borla tip lol. very pretty though, and as pointed out earlier, a beautiful fit for the stock cutout in the rear fascia.
anyways, my report on highway speed drone...THERE IS NONE! i'd have to get up around 75-80mph to get closer to 3000-3100rpm cruising to get any real increase in sound inside over stock. for the most part while cruising, it keeps pretty quiet, unlike so many of the obnoxious, blatty, ricer kitty-cannons. nice rumble at idle and just off, kinda quiets down a bit nearly to stock sounding between about 2kand 3k rpms, then you start to really hear it go, and it's just a fantastic sound.
i strongly advise all, if youre looking for a catback for your SS, look no further than ADM (and no i'm not getting paid to say that, seriously). looks great, sounds great, performs great, and pretty darn easy to install too. the ramps my SS is on in the videos is how it sat for the install. however after attaching the midpipe, when it came time to stick the front end of the axle-back portion over the rear suspension, i had to have my brother lay under the spare tire well and push up to get enough clearance for these monster pipes between th suspension and the heat shield JUST in front of the rear suspension. that was really the ONLY somewhat tricky part of the install.
ADM PERFORMANCE 08-13-2008, 06:30 AM It will not be magnaflow muffler,I am using one of my long time vendors whom I have done our own special parts with in past.If your dead set on magnaflow muffler than we may have something for you..but honestly the product/company I am using is hands down one of the best in the performance exhaust world.
We are also looking into an optional muffler delete option as well that you can do a quick change before the track,if you know what I mean.
Pricing is yet to be determined, but will reflect current product quality/price that is similar in design.
More to come

hogwild 08-13-2008, 11:39 AM I need a sound clip of this new venders muffler on an HHR SS. Im not in love with magnaflow mind you, but you have now changed the product that I saw and liked! Im sure this vender has a name??? Thanks:nuts:

I am thinking turbo-back exhaust that doesn't delete the cat so it still passes emissions with an electric cutout in the down-pipe or just after, as an option of course.

exactly what i'm thinking. i will eventually be removing the first chunk of the midpipe, where the flange is, and basically just shortening that pipe, saving the piece, and putting in a cutout. basically it will be the flange on the DP, the cutout, flanged on both sides so it is removable and replacable with just a piece of pipe with flanges (i'm told the presence of a cutout on a car results in automatic fail on smog visual inspections, so the piece of pipe will be put in place when it's time for inspection), then the rest of the catback after that.
camaro98z28 08-13-2008, 11:13 PM A Borla Muffler maybe? :) I do like the fact that there is no increase exhaust sound inside. whats the stock size anyways? 2 3/4 inch? Anyways looks great and sounds good.
I do believe that just changing the exhaust or intake will not void warrenty.
Yonash 08-14-2008, 03:24 AM stock i think is 2 1/2" not sure though. this stuff is much larger than stock. seeing them side by side in person was amazing at the size difference. and the increased exhaust sound inside does happen, just not until you start getting up in rpms pretty good.
