steering wheel controls- where do the wires go?
does anyone know where the wires are routed that are for the volume and skip buttons on the steering wheel. i want to use these to control my airbags. i dont need them now that i have an aftermarket headunit.
also does the plastic piece that holds the switches just pop out?

center piece 1st
i'm pretty sure the center piece on the wheel comes out 1st...but i'm sure someone else knows more.....thats a cool idea..hope it works for you...i plan to use my rear wiper switches for top secret assignment.

yeah i want to know if the wires run to the radio harness, if so what colors are they. the only reason i asked about how to remove them was in case i had to rewire.
I also wonder what kind of load these little switches can handle. ill have to see how much the valves pull

The wires do go to the radio head unit. One of the wires is Dark Blue and goes to pin 11 of the 14 pin connector. The other wire is White with a Black tracer and is on pin 14 of the 16 pin connector.
The switches are actually a resistor voltage divider and can handle very little power. The resistance changes depending upon what button is pressed from 1.1K to 3.3K Ohm, with no button pressed the resistance is an open or infinity.

Several years ago I tried hooking up one of those PAC converters to get my controls working with my Pioneer radio-the thing shorted out. When I get my courage up, I want to try again. I hate having buttons that dont do anything.
On my other car, I want to see about using the windshield washer button to control a relay for an extra horn. But, I have to check to see how much voltage it can handle.
