'08 LS with 46.9k on the clock.

If they still made these, I'd consider a new one.

My '08 2LT Panel has 28,000 miles, just switched to Mobil 1. Used to get 31-32 mpg, then put Goodyear triple treads on and got a Trifecta tune, now I get 28.5 mpg .
'09 SS Panel has 81,500 miles, Mobil 1. Gets 29-30 mpg, With the Trifecta tune on it gets 30-31 mpg. Love em both...john

No offense BUT your topics have been discussed many times, with many answers from many different people in many different states. You can pick the answer that fits your needs. It would save some bandwidth space.

The problem with that thread is it is ancient. I have an '09 with 89,000 miles on it. I bought it with 83,000 miles on it, and so far it has been trouble free. But, unlike most cars I've owned, I really like this one, and would like to keep it several more years. I average around 30,000 mostly highway miles per year, so mileage racks up in a hurry. I am a vintage car mechanic, which means I have no way to work on FWD cars, such as replacing engines/transmissions. I've been putting Castrol GTX 10w30 in it. Since it has some wear, I am afraid to use synthetic, for fear it will start burning and leaking oil. I have seen this happen on several high mileage cars. I change oil every 3000. No exceptions. I change trans fluid every 20,000 miles. No flush, just drop the pan, drain out what comes out, replace filter and pan gasket. Coolant gets changed every 2 years. Of course I did all that when I bought the car.

Has anyone here had any experience having an engine or transmission replaced? Cost? Problems? Are these engines and transmissions likely to available several years into the future? I'm still able to get over 90% of the mechanical parts for my 1972 Ford Pinto wagon either new or rebuilt.

About 140500; mostly trouble free. :)
It has been a very reliable car, still very comfortable, and runs as good as when I bought it.

Low miles

I too have an 06 HHR. I bought it off of the showroom floor. I have used synthetic oil since it's first oil change. I now have 33,000 miles on it. At 55 to 60 miles per hour on the highway I get about 32 miles per gallon. It's my wife's car and she doesn't drive it much, but she loves it and doesn't want to sell it.
