I've been thinking about talking to my cousin about what shes going to do with her HHR is she gets it back from an impound lot that it has been in for a couple years now. Grant it, I'm very new to the HHR, but been pondering about talking to her about getting it and either fixing it up to running condition or keeping it for myself in the garage for parts. What would any of you vets do? FYI, no idea vehicle specs.

I've pulled cars out of rivers and home from sitting in a field for 25 years
With a vision and a little elbow grease and some cash and I had some fun with those cars built them drove them and sold them for a nominal profit!

But, the OP is talking talking about a modern day vehicle. With today's electronics and new fangled do-dads, well, it would be a gamble.
No telling what all would need to be replaced after sitting up and not running for that long a period.

couldnt of said it better fireman. That's the reason why I decided to getting out of being a mechanic. I love the old school stuff, but all the new electronics and do dads scared me and lost interest in pursuing further. Another reason too is that all my learning was on and for vehicles 2003 and older. If anything, i would mind pulling some things out of it and ripping them apart to get a better understanding (like pulling the engine and trans). If any of that makes sense.

My point was exactly that back in the day this would be a no brainer!
But now as you pointed out the computers and rodents chewing up the wires and upholstery, it would most likely be to expensive to do anything but use it for parts!
