I recently thought about trading in my 09 beauty.

Well when I got to the dealership they said it may be worth 12,500. The funny thing about this is that I am still under factory warranty. And I put 5000 down when I bought it.

So if your keeping track my Sticker Price was around 27,500. Moonroof, Onstar, Auto, Roof Rack, and so on.

With incentives and the money down I figured there was no way that I would be upside down. Well this is where I am having a problem.

So if anyone is interested in my vehicle please send me a messege.

If it is under factory warranty try to sell it yourself. any problems they are covered

For 12,500 I would just keep it, unless you can sell it privately or are having major issues with it they wont fix under warranty.

No surprise to me really, I bet GM aint giving crap for trade in on anything that is GM.

To my way of thinking 12.5K is a fair offer for your vehicle. I only paid 18.5 for my 09 SS in June of 09. Sticker was 27K+++ it has less than 8K miles and I figure it only worth about 14K on the open market. As much as I love this wagon, I will sell it before 36/36000 as it is built on the cheap. I'll add that I think you need to make your deal when buy a car, not when you sell or trade.

Dealers are not giving much on trade for most cars right now. It is more than a HHR issue.

When the big three dumped a lot of cars on the market in the last couple years they did so very cheap and in high numbers.

Unless you have that odd high demand low volume car the dealer will not give you anything for much for many models.

About the only thing with any value is a pick up truck.

In this day and age if you are going to not keep a car 5 years or more you may as well lease it. Anything less you are going to pay for it no matter the model.

I just traded my 09 HHR LT2 Fully loaded VR with 19k miles. I got a good deal on mine when I bought it I payed 15,099 for mine out the door, I bought it brand new. I traded it for a 2008 SS VR with 6K miles on it. It took two hours but I did get them to pay off what I owe which was 11,500. Originaly they were only going to give me 10,300 for it because of the 2010s on the lot for about the same price But they were all LS' and had 30k miles on themand my out the door price was going to be 19,900. I told them HELL no and was going to walk out the door. after two hours and talking to a few people they payed off the 09 and reduced the price of the 08. So the 08 SS cost me 17,592 out the door. I learned from this you have to find the right dealer and keep saying no. They want to sell the car but they want to make as much as possible. I knew what I was good with and I got a deal I could afford. Hopefully this post makes sense and isnt just a bunch of jumbled thoughts.

Your messege made lots of sense. The little fact I left out is that I use to sell cars and I know the ins and outs of the business. The problem I have with the whole thing is that a vehicle should never depreciate in such a huge way. Remeber I put 5000.oo down as well as having had a great bottom line. The problem with these is that it is a niche vehicle and only a true chevy lover would appreciate Optimus.

Retro vehicles are typically owned by car lovers who have much more enthusiasm for the vehicles that they own. Ever look at the PT Cruiser or VW New Beetle site? But the drawback is, as you say, that they are certainly niche vehicles that have a much narrrower following, hence smaller market when it's time to sell (that is, if you want to sell).

Not for "appliance vehicle" people who'd rather blend in and be indistinguishable among the automotive scenery, but the vanilla vehicles are pretty much on a level playing field if you decide to sell them prematurely (in the scheme of typical ownership duration).
