FYI, I created a new post in the "How To Section" about how to remove the Headliner. Thought it would be easier for people to search for it that way.

Thanks for the pictures of the removed headliner and the clearance above it. I bought a used dome light from the junkyard (Oops-can't call them that anymore, they're "recyclers"!) but haven't had time to install it the last month.

After seeing your pictures and writeup, I see where there is room to install it.

Do you think it's possible to install it without removing the headliner? It may not be possible because the piece that goes above the headliner has tabs that are wider than the cutout in the headliner.

Also, did you get the connector with your light? I didn't get one because it was part of a harness and it would have cost a lot more.

Thanks
Steve

You can not install the light without at least dropping the headliner. The light fits in from the backside of the liner and you will need access to the rear light to connect it.

I also did not get a harness with my dome light. Instead, I removed the rear light and soldered new wires to the metal contact plates in it and then ran those up to the same pates on the new light. Works great.

I'm guessing it'll take ya about 1 hour to drop the liner.

I added a 2006 Malibu dome light to my HHR when I replaced therearview mirror with the OnStar FMV. It was quite easy, did not have to remove the headliner, just make a hole in it.
