For those of you who live anywhere where driving in winter snow is a reality and have dedicated winter tires, which tires do you have? I'm curious to see what brands and models (even sizes) people have on their HHR's for winter.

I will most likely be purchasing winter tires and steelies tomorrow (once I decide which ones!) and have narrowed it down to either the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 or the Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 models (assuming they are still available!). I've read good things about both models.

I'll be going down in size from the stock 215/50/17 to 205/65/15's as there is only 0.1" difference in diameter and research on here shows the 205/65/15's will fit without any rubbing, caliper fitment or other problems.

Which brand, model and size do you have for winter?

Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires, don't remember the exact size. I'll know the size soon as it snowed here today and I will be putting them on tomorrow!

Tested my new Goodyear Triple Tread Assurance 215/50/16 tires today in
6 inches of snow with an ice base and never even got into the traction control.

They ran great!

The Goodyear Triple Treads have very good reviews on TireRack. They will be my new year round tires when the stock tires need replaced.

I've always used the Michelins, X-Ice and Alpins in different sizes, have always worked great! Haven't tried them on the HHR though, as mine doesn't see snow, it's all tucked in for a LONG winter's nap!

fast suv.... what rims do you have them on? i am trying to find a cheep set of cobalt takeoffs and cant seem to find anything less than $200 not even steelies....

225 50 17, Blizzack ws 60. I've used every type of winter tire on about a range of 30 vehicles I have owned and 2 kinds came out on top in my opinion as a driver,hot rod builder and mechanic. They are the Bridgstone Blizzack and Michelin x ice. I have found the x ice to be almost as good if not equivelent on ice as the blizzack,but lacks a little in deep snow traction, as the blizzack with larger gaps between the blocks help in digging. I have used and installed goodyear assurance tires on a couple of my vehicles and on customers and it is a decent all year round tire,but as all things it does not compare to a purpose built ice tire. Although if you do not get harsh winters as my region gets or snow and ice for a possible 6 months of a year it probably does not pay to have a set of winter and summer tires. But as I have found a good set of winter tires saves an insurance deductible,crash,sliding into a curb or expensive accident and is worht the cost to me. I have also found on the vehicles I keep for a long time, I can easily get 6 winters out of a set and in turn alows my summer tires to double their longevity as well. This is my opinion based on my experiences, as there are alot of tires out there and alot of decent ones to serve many purposes.
