Cam Timing Change in Cruise - RPD
 

Can someone with the RPD tell me if the cam timing changes a few seconds after you come up to speed?

For example, watch the cam timing, accelerate up to 65 and then hold at 65. Does the cam timing change after 3-5 seconds of steady throttle?

Think of it this way..under load its going to give you the best power...once that load is removed ( steady cruise power) there is no longer a need for the agressive timing so it backs off ..it doesn't take as much power to maintain speed as it does to accelerate to that speed.....

Sure, but does it change after a couple of seconds of steady pedal?

depends on the load...road level is not constant,nothing is.. the engine will vary everything to maintain that speed..its this fine tuning that gives it its power AND milage..

Ok, I'm trying to figure out of they use the cam phasing to simulate something like lean cruise (I know it's not lean cruise although with direct injection they could be doing lean cruise if they can manage the Nox.)

I am looking for someone that can tell me if they see the phasing change after a few seconds once you are in steady cruise. It appears they are doing that in my wife's SRX 3.6. If you tap the throttle the phasing changes and then goes back after a few seconds.

Ok. I watched the cam phaser gauge at a steady 60 mph and did not notice any change after 3-5 seconds or even up to about 20 seconds. On a side note: trying to watch this dual gauge(intake,exhaust) during acceleration,steady cruise,decel,on and off throttle etc. is.....well, it's weird. At times it's like watching a bird slowly flap it's wings! Too much info for brain to process.:nuts:

What gauge are you using to monitor cam phaser? I've got a DashHawk, and I don't think that's on the menu.

We are refering to the factory performance display.Standard on 2010 SS. Option before that.
