Intrested.

Father Azmodius 11-07-2009 08:53 AM

I SUPPOSE I'd be in, but then I'd HAVE to buy 2 of the aeroforce gauges. I will, if you force me to. I hate changing anythng from stock. It looks like we'd need 20 people, so come on, let's do it.

ATLsilverSS 11-07-2009 10:55 AM

hmmm this looks familiar...wait...oh yeah...i posted the same thing 5 months ago...but it got deleted...hhhhmmmmmm????????

...oh and by the way they won't do one on the pillar b/c of the airbag...

xzombiex66 11-07-2009 11:12 AM

There isn't a air bag on the A pillar.

davidjb 11-07-2009 11:34 AM

Father Azmodius 11-07-2009 11:47 AM

I have an airbag on my pillar, and I've only been here since August

xzombiex66 11-07-2009 12:09 PM

there are airbags on the A pillars on the new HHRs?

KinseySS 11-07-2009 12:29 PM

There are no airbags in the pillars and as ATLsilverSS said, this is why you cant put anything on your b and c pillar. I think everyone should see a crash test of there cars just so they know how their airbags get deployed.

I'm interested in this as well.

HHR 'Black Death' 11-07-2009 02:55 PM

Yes, you can order your HHR with side airbags. I have them in the A & B pillars for sure, and I can't remember if they are on the C pillar too. It is an OPTION so everyone will not have them.

*edit* yep, on the C pillar too. :) Heck might as well just do the D pillar for sh1ts and giggles.

xzombiex66 11-07-2009 03:19 PM

Side air bags are in the headliner near the top of the door, why would they put air bags in the A pillar?

Father Azmodius 11-07-2009 04:23 PM

They want to make the HHR like the police cars from Judge Dredd

They're not in the pillars. The "airbag" that's posted on the pillars is a warning for emergency personal or whoever, so they know the vehicle has side airbags in case they haven't been deployed in a collision.

Father Azmodius 11-08-2009 12:41 AM

I've been riding around for 2 weeks with the A pillar cover off, and mine definitely has an airbag on it.

watch the video it will show you exactly where the air bag is.

xzombiex66 11-08-2009 02:08 AM

Why would they put one in the A pillar?? We need pics of the air bag I would love to see this.

JJ's BLACK SS 11-09-2009 09:30 AM

sorry to say no one wants to make one for the hhr because of the air bag i did a lot of research 8 months ago

Punkin Head 11-09-2009 09:48 AM

Frankly Scarlett, I'll keep the air bag! The pillar rack looks cool, but it's hell on the facial structure during a crash.

outlandishhhr 11-09-2009 01:30 PM

I emailed them to see if they are able to make them or not. If they are, does someone have an extra pillar they can use for mock up?

outlandishhhr 11-09-2009 01:55 PM

Just got an email back, here's the response:

"Yes, It is basically illegal (and a major liability) to modify any part in the car that has an air restraint system in or around the part. Even if the system is an option on some cars. We have been doing dash mounted parts like http://www.gaugepods.com/mazda6.html so we can use your dash lid as an alternative."

His alternative looks cool as long as it does not take away my storage:)

Father Azmodius 11-09-2009 07:12 PM

I have the RPD and have been contemplating a dual gauge setup along with the RPD, but that won't happen until I finish smoothing the dash.

THE BATMAN 11-09-2009 08:21 PM

The mazda set up looks good. I also have the side curtain airbags on my 08 SS , and would also perfer not to mess with air bag areas, But you see in the airbag video, The gauge pillar does not move , So maybe it would be alright ?
And i just picked up a dead mint 06 mazda 6 sport sedan with 44,000 miles on it for the wife.

Nice pic, Def looks like a bag, That pillar cover must go somewere when that thing goes off, I don't think i'll load mine with extra projectiles.

Black SS Texas 11-09-2009 10:28 PM

Well if they will make a lid pod like the mazda i`m in on that to, factory gauge and two areoforce gauges, sweet:D:D:D

ATLsilverSS 11-09-2009 11:18 PM

several months ago i asked this company to make me a pod and was told they couldn't because of the airbag. i sugguested the storage lid, and posted in this site about it and it got deleted since they're not a supporting vendor. oh well. good luck

That's not the airbag, but it is part of the airbag system. Looking at this though now I can see why they wouldn't want to mess with the pillar cover.

asanti 11-12-2009 05:38 PM

I'd definitely sign up if they make a dual pod setup on top of the dash bin like the one for that Mazda. It reminds me of the OEM ones in a 350Z.

JJ's BLACK SS 11-12-2009 10:05 PM

you can try this

Hey thanks for posting that. I just saw the little airbag emblems on the pillars and knew they where in there somewhere. It is good to know where they are so if I want to take A-pillar apart to put in new speakers I can. I see the complications in everyones communication. Yes there are airbags, just not in the place where you see the emblem. I have never had a car with side curtain bags so I was confused on how that plastic would pop out of the way for the bag. good video!

I immediately thought the same thing until I remembered: "DUH, panel HHR's only have 2 doors!"... :red::lol::thumb:

Later
Allex

JJ's BLACK SS 11-13-2009 11:00 AM

on a panel the doors still work so i guess you can still call it a 4 door

That is the side air bag for cars equipped with the ASF rpo code. It runs from the A-piller and past the rear seats

That's what were arguing about. I'm arguing that the side airbag isn't in the pillar themselves but starts at the top edge of the A-pillar and runs to the C-pillar. I even posted crash test video but seems only 1 person watched it

Another argument I could add is if the airbags were in the pillar, they wouldn't have put the Boost gauge on the pillar and would have put them in the dash like they do in the Caliber SRT4 (but even the side airbags in that car aren't in the pillars)

Anyways, a good argument always gets the brain juices going :thumb:

Father Azmodius 11-13-2009 07:01 PM

Bottom line..........The A pillar cover moves ( some ) when an airbag deploys. Where the propellant is located is quite irrelevant.
