DIY IC pipe

1 Attachment(s)
I just installed my DIY IC pipe

Attachment 22577

Did feel as though the car/engine accelerated smoother from the stock pipe.
No "lag" in the boost.
Don't really drive long distances, as work is only 3 miles from where I live, but I took it for a ride on the L.I.E. for about 20 miles round trip and the DIC said I was getting close to 26 MPG with the tune shut off and going about 70 MPH.
For people that do highway driving is this about right?

That will work. I also noticed a difference with mine when I changed that pipe.

With my tune my mileage is higher, I'm 32+. I did a bunch to testing and logging to get it there.

I have a Trifeca tune that is "programmable", not like the HP tune where you can change parameters. I guess, as a shot in the dark, I should make a pass and download it to Trifecta and see if a new map will be made from it.
Question: Doc how long of a ride/distance does it take to develop 32+ MPG?

DrLoch 04-04-2016 07:54 AM

My magic MPH numbers are ~ 70-72 and generally it will get to that MPG number after a fill up and back on the freeway in about 5-10 miles. To give you an example, this morning when I left for work I had 129 miles on my current tank my DIC had avg MPG number of 29.6 by the time I reached work it was at @ 30.6. My drive into work is a mix of about 22-25 miles of back roads ~55-60 MPH depending on which route I take and the rest freeway, total is ~47 each way. Those MPG figures are if you are driving conservatively, if I'm doing some "spirited" driving on the back roads I won't see those
numbers, I'll see ~ 27 - 29 depending on the level.

Hey Cat Man
can you show a pic of the lower connection, to the intercooler? or did you use the stock connector on the bottom end? just curious as i hate the stock plastic pipe! thanks

I left the stock OEM rubber hose on the inter cooler. The tube that is clamped to that is a 2 1/2" exhaust pipe with a 45* bend. One leg of it is about 13" and the other leg is 4".
I bought two 90* silicone elbows from here. Click on the image to see the full page.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/331558147268?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITThe two straight sections of pipe are 7" and 11"
Also using constant torque hose clamps, no need for T-Bolt clamps. They work on IC pipe for Cat truck engines, so this application should not be a problem.

You might want to double check the pipe right next to that A/C line, the look like their fixing to be kissing cousins!
Nice looking pipes maybe in the summer buff them with some 0000 steel wool and clear coat them or maybe gloss black paint

After I took this picture I moved the pipe location, all is good. I'm going to get a longer M6 bolt then I have now and add a longer spacer from the one that's there under the tubing clamp to raise it up to give more clearance to the lines under it.
Was thinking of replacing the 2 90* elbows with steel and welding back together then crinkle coat it.
That lower connection is not user friendly for one person to install the pipe. I left the hose connected to the IC and slid the pipe onto it. Went under the car and squeezed my hand up to hold the hose clamp in place and used a long (18") 1/4" extension and a 3/8"" universal socket to tighten it.

I can tell it is. If the bumper cover is off it's a bit easier.
