downpipe

If I install a catless downpipe do I need to tune? Sure it may make a difference but is it a need to do? Thanks

Well the main reason you want a tune with a catless down pipe is to disable COT protection (its not necessary to have done). Basically the computer dumps more fuel to cool off the catalytic converter.
I've had both catless and catted dp (now), the ZZP catless downpipe threw a code eventually (3k mile after install), and would come back every 2-3 weeks. Not to bad just clear it and go again.
The ZZP spun metal cat down pipe threw a code anytime I got on it wot. I eventually had to have Vince at Trifecta just turn the rear O2 cat efficiency code off, I was getting sick of clearing the code so frequently.
If your willing to spend the money on a interceptor gauge, you can read/clear cels with it, plus monitor a gazillion different things, it really is a true plug-n-play all in one gauge.

If you have the GM turbo upgrade done, you "shouldn't" need a tune with a catless DP, although for max HP a tune would be preferable. I've had my catted Hahn DP + exhaust for about a year and never had a CEL once. I do have the turbo upgrade though.

Everyone that has a catless dp and hasnt thrown a code yet WILL. Ill guarantee it, its just a matter of time. So yeah if youre trying to run one then i would suggest tuning the code out via HPTuners or just clear the code as it comes up

What would a cut-out do? Throw a code immediately, or can the ecm cope once the Turbo upgrade is added. I am also curious about codes thrown, I haven't heard you say "limp mode" so is it just the frustration of re-setting the code? or is performance hampered when the O2 doesn't wanna play right?

Um you might throw a code with the cutout but i know a few people that havent had problems. The ECM will never cope for a missing cat once the stage kit is added. I mean if you dont mind going to autozone to clear a code then go ahead. But if you only have the stage kit now, then do your downpipe and whatever other boltons (if youre trying to do more upgrades) and get custom tuned with HPTuners and erase the code while at it.

I haven't purchased anything yet since I have an Automatic, but for a year or so I have been leaning towards the cut-out... when I need it hit the button, and keep my neighbors happy? Is this a better option or should I just buy the avail. DP's and have an extension welded/bolted,,,,or does this make a good spot for a cut-out... I want a Hann cat-back but I am iffy after hearing that they just cut and move hangers from the Cobalt. I am also leary since they are moving to FL, and customers will suffer during the move.

foolmoon,i love my hahn full exhaust. sounds REALLY GOOD!!! not loud, but deep enough for you to tell the difference. very neighborhood friendly!!! not a big fan of the cutout. the motors do wear out on them. plus why wait to push a button when u can just go???lol

thinking about putting one on my wife's auto ss
