Driving in "L" or "I"

OK for the Auto Tranny guys. I love dumping from L to I and then to D, especially I as it holds 3rd and 4th pretty well.

My question is this, the car still feels quick in L or I, but according to the Owners Manual there is a 30% reduction of Tourque and Power in L and I.

Anyway of getting this back?

You must not hold it in L to long because it will shift to I at the red line if you let it then stay in I till the red line with no converter lock up

Yeah I would stick to I, it still holds the RPMs up pretty good, and wont hurt anything. The owners manual even says you can use it for regular driving.

How can it "hold 4th"? Isn't it just a 4-speed?

Remember, you have an automatic transmission. I is like 3rd gear. D is like 4th gear, but as soon as you let up a little on the gas, it will shift into lock up.(OD)

If you want to hold a car in a gear, buy a manual transmission.

I never use anything past "D". I figure it's what most people use...not gonna worry about the others, or I would have bought a manual. But that's just me. I know they put those there for a reason!

Launching in "L" gives you 1st till around 5500, then 2nd lags in, there is no jolt from 1st to 2nd, its almost a let down. However if you shift from "L" to "I" before the change from 1st to 2nd there is a tremendous amount of boost built up and the SS lunges foward without delay. Once in "I" it will hold 3rd, and 4th pretty well as long as your foot stays in it, and locks out the "OD" from the regular "D". The "L" and "I" in comp mode work OK for launches, but I have found that punching the pedal while above 40mph "D" is the only option.

So wait wait wait... we are saying that there is an actual 4th gear, then an overdrive? I was under the impression that 4th was overdrive, as in ratio of less than 1:1.

fourth gear is probably less thn a 1:1 ratio. The OD effect I mentioned is when the lock up occurs.
