Good read. But isn't true that the ecotec family of engines were originally designed by opel in germany. I dont have an SS. I have just an LS with a 2.2L ecotec. This engine produces about 149hp and gets 32-35mpgs. Thats impressive when you compare it to the 1.6L e-tec engine made by daewoo in my fiance's chevy aveo...which still only gets 34mpgs with only 104 hp. The germans know how to design engines.

 

my wife had an aveo and it never got into the 30s for mpg. does she drive really slow or did the germans mess up when putting mine together?

 

What is even more amazing is seeing the GM Ecotec tour, with 1400HP 4 cylinders, using the same block as in your HHR.

The koreans or daewoo made the e-tec in the aveo....My point was that the germans design better engines than the kareans do.

 

Are you sure that the ecotech was designed by Opel?

No problem. I just happen to be an opel enthusyist since my other car is a 1970 opel gt1900.

 

The modern opel gt you would know as the saturn sky or pontiac solstice who infact run the 2.0turbo ecotec.
