Help..Turbo 101

OK, I admit I have no idea of what most of these mods people are talking about do...ie real gains.
Can someone refer me to a link or site with some turbo 101.

For example..downpipes, what does this help, is it better to have catted or not, and why?
IC Pipes, what does this help? Why?
Any general help to understand a turbo( the EcoTech) would be super.
I'm looking for theory and real world info.

My current plans are to have the Trifecta done soon, so maybe I'll be happy with that ontop of the GM upgrade, but I just want to know more how this thing works.

Sorry if it seems I'm lazy, and maybe I am. But I have read @ 500 post through different threads and am so confused, and to be frank...I have a almost 4 year old daughter that gets most of my time so I really can't spend hours searching for things.

I hope this does't come accross wrong, I just need/want to know how and why.

Thanks for your positive replys, Jer
