Never had a problem with any K&N filter I have ran......sure you were aware, but you have to spray the oil in one direction only on the filter.

On a side note, how much extra HP/Torque are you getting with it? 5-10hp?

IMHO K&N is a waste on a daily driver. Certainly K&N touts their product as safe, reliable, cost effective, never causes a problem..... and mostly they are correct.

Go Here and read about K&N filters: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/index....tent&Itemid=76

There are no agendas here and you can make up your own mind.

My $0.02; If you are running a full blown race engine a K&N filter is certainly the way to go. Optimizing flow will help get top HP and Torque. Race engines are typically getting lots of oil changes so the oil issue isn't a problem. No pollution controls means no worries about MAF's etc.

Run a good quality paper filter on the street, change it often and you can be sure your engine will be getting the best care.

Show one example of K&N causing damage that wasn't simple fix.

You don't run a drop in filter for performance. Yes there is a chance that one will get over oiled at the factory. Spray the MAF with electronic cleaner and be on your way. By the time that happens, the excess oil will already be off the filter.

There is your main benefit right there. A K&N will cost maybe what 2 paper filters cost. If you are the type that swaps vehciles out faster than the warranty runs out, you probably don't need to swap. But if you change out 3 or more filter, the K&N will pay for itself.

Well obviously you know way more about this than somebody who conducted a validated test. So we'll have to defer to you. If saving $100 bucks over the life of a typical car is THAT important you are certainly correct.

Bob's test have been shown more than once to be a little one sided.

Buy once, be done with it.

Paper filters are great, but they are just wasting resources IMO.

I run the K&N in the winter, and the factory filter in the summer when there is a lot of fine dust in the air that the K&N won't filter out as well. K&N argues that the superfine dust does not measurably affect engine wear, and perhaps they are right based on the high miles of some K&N cars as reported here. Never had an issue with oil contamination on any of our cars sensors with the K&N's.

I been using K&N filters since 1986 ,in 6 different cars, never had a problem related to the air intake system. I still have my '98 BMW 328is which has had a K&N filter since '98 with no problems at all, & BMW is finicky with all the tech stuff in the car. My new Hollywood Hot Rod (HHR) will get a cold air intake as soon as the snow permits! In '96 I got a HKS Dail-A-Boost kit for my Mitsubsi Starion ESIR, the kit came with a replacement air filter. You guessed it, a K&N. The paper filter didn't allow enough air in fast enough!
