Oil Change intervals?

I have never had a car with the oil life indicator, I was always a every 3k miles kinda guy. Well I bought my HHR SS w/ 16k and the oil was changed right before I bought it, well I have almost 25k now and it says 9% oil life. Well that seemed a little to long on old oil so I changed it yesterday but I wanted to see how many miles everyone else is getting between oil changes.

Before I moved closer to my job, i would let the DIC get to 10% and averaged about 11000 between oil changes.

I change mine at 40% DIC. Normally around 6-8,000 miles.

Is this safe or should the oil be changed about every 5k miles?

It's all an opinion thing. I change mine way too much compared to most, based on miles, or a long period of time. I don't care what others tell me... Rather be safe than sorry, and in the 15 years my dad has owned my truck, the engine is spotless. We must be doing something right.
