ive bought one b efore just to see what it is. if you are referrring to the one that looks like a little black box all that is inside is a 40 ohm transistor. the most it will do is set your engine light on. they work on the mind over matter principal. if people are told what to expect then they will feel its happening.

Hot air intakes.
Restrictive IMCO 924T "Turbo" mufflers.
Turbonators.
E-rams. One HHR owner actually put TWO on!!
Hey, we actually had an ex-vendor here pushing Dyno-Tabs, which had huge gains in power and mileage!

As stated above, its a resistor that changes the voltage from the Intake Air temp sensor (also called Charge Air temp sensor on some cars) that the computer sees and makes the computer think the air is colder than it is, which the computer will add fuel (richen), however the oxygen sensors will catch the false condition and as the computer sees the readings from the oxygen sensor(s) it will adjust back. This process, also as stated above, often throws a Check Engine light on the dash.
