Question. I know the 2.2 was rated at 143hp but I also read in places 155 hp. Did GM up the HP in the later models?

 

I believe 2008 and up had Variable Valve Timing. before that it didn't, I could be wrong about the year

 

Yep.

 

2006 L61 2.2l had 143hp/150tq.

2007 - 2008 L61 2.2l had 149hp/152tq

2009 - 2011 LE8 2.2l had 155hp/150tq on std gas and 160hp/158tq on E85

The LE8 is the VVT version.

The 2006 had the old style coil plate vs individual coils.

 

is that for manual or auto?

 

this is crank HP/TQ whats put to the wheels is different for the auto vs manual

 

Thanks for the replies. It helps me understand why this HHR has the punch it has. Granted it is no Corvett but this thing gets out and runs and runs great. I traded in my 91 Ford Ranger I ordered new for my HHR. I am so impressed with this 2.2, It runs smoother and more relaxed running down the road compared to the 3.0 V6 at 145 HP I ran for 22 years. I feel I made the right move. I have only had the HHR for 48 hrs but this is starting to get fun.
