2.4 throttle body

Now what I have heard from a guy in the ion fourm that with the 2.2 liters it will throw the car out of wack installing the 2.4 liters throttle body is this true has anyone installed in on there 2.2 on here yet? he said the car will run good on the top end power with the 2.4 manifold but not with the throttle body.

For one of the rare times on the interwebz, the term "what I have heard.." is correct here.

There is a value in the ECM calibration called "ETC Area Scalar" which basically tells the ECM the effective cross-sectional area of the TB. If that is not correct the ECM will get REAL confused and the car won't run right.

To make the change, this will have to be changed by a qualified tuner.

Also, having never dealt with the 2.2s, I have absolutely no idea if there needs to be any wiring changes to the TB.

The answer about the wiring could likely be found over on CobaltSS.net. I think it's been done by some there.

It's pretty easy to do. You just need to know how to match 'em up. I had to rewire my LSJ TB on my 2.4 for the SC setup. No big deal once you know the order.

You can also install a ported 2.2 throttle body also, I have did it on several cobalts and my wifes hhr.

I have the 2.4 throttle body.

I have a 2.4 throttle body and it is noticeably larger than the 2.2. I have not installed it yet because it will throw codes and not run right unless you have a tune like the Trifecta to match it. I think (hope) the wires are the same. I better double check that........

...and the reason the engine won't run right after a TB change is that the MAF used on the Ecotec in HHRs doesn't actually measure the mass of all the air flowing into the engine. It only measures a small part of it then applies this "ETC Area Scalar" to derive the full mass of the air going into the engine.

So, if you change TBs, the cross sectional area of the TB changes but, if you use the old calibration (which contains the old scalar), then the engine controller will incorrectly derive the mass of the air going into the engine.

Chadpuska, ported tb advantage is a few more hp, better throttle responce.
