Okay, okay.. I'm a tweaker and out of the box kind of guy, so here are some thoughts as I figure out what to do. So There are a few good engine choices and Engine management options. I like to save where I can and also not have to much work involved if possible.
Thought 1: So I buy a VVT engine (A lot to choose from) but leave the CAMS at full retard, I figure low RPM might be sluggish, but I'm not worried about that. What ECU setup to use? I need to do more research to verify the ignition setup/options. MS3 stock ECU etc
Thought 2: See if I can buy some good performance engine parts and rebuild L61 for Boost, find someone to do a tune for an 06 (seems non existent), swap ECU etc from doner or use MS3 (my preferred choice)

My wife feels the same way! I'm always on my graph paper coming up with some crazy scheme. Currently building a 4x4x6 powder oven.

Well, I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag but...I'm way outside the box as well. Here's what I'd like to do (sorry, not trying to derail your thread here) I'm probably going to use my 2.0L for either a side by side or motorcycle frame (built not bought!)

Now for my HHR, it's ultimate problem is FWD. I'm capable of a V8 RWD but that's been done enough. Since I live outside the box I need AWD. There's a few decent donors to choose from and I haven't ever seen it. Which is what truly excited me about doing it. I think the best(cheapest) choice would be an 08+ Saab TurboX. I would need to make a little room but it's tunable via HPT. I'm a fan of labor...obviously

Your not derailing the thread, I like open discussion, gets the brain working :)
I thought about doing a rear wheel drive in the Cavalier or an AWD setup as well.. Decided to do the "as stock as possible" approach as the Z24 is a sleeper and I like it that way. That's what I like about the LT1 HHR I have, it won't look the part, but will like hell!
I've already began replacing all suspension, wheel bearings and Fuel lines, brake lines. The engine and exhaust follow as well as the stopping power.
