Best size piping for new exhaust?
Best size piping for new exhaust?
So this is what Im going to do so please if you have something negative dont let it interrupt this thread. I'm going to cut the exhaust off at the resonator and put bigger piping and have a glasspack at where the muffler would be. All id like to know is what size piping should I use I want to go bigger I was thinking of 2 and a quarter just to go a little bit bigger what do you guy recommend. Yes i know it'll be loud that what I want loud and chunky.
header???
when i took mine to get my straight thru muffler put on , i asked the guy how much he would charge to add some larger pipe. he said it would do no good unless i had a header. i trust this guy. he is like an artist with exhaust. the factory cast iron exhaust manifold is kind of restrictive. there are some pix posted on this site. or you could do google image search. i'm not trying to be negative , but only informative. you can put up to 3 inch pipe , if you like, but you may not see any result unless you add a header as well.
go 2.5, you wont loose anything with 3" at least nothing noticeable but 3" is a little overkill on N/A. you will see a difference without getting a header. you are still freeing up some of those terrible factory bends. match that good piping with a good quality muffler.

2.5'' can handle all the horsepower the 2.2 can throw at it. Even if you were supercharged, you'd still probably want 2.5''. If you went turbo charged, you'd want 3''.
If you're talking about my video, I don't have full 3'' exhaust, that's just at the collector.

question for the same topic. I have the pacesetter with the smaller primaries that I still have to put on. Other than the fact that 3" would be "overkill" is there any negitives or reasons not to? It would be a full 3" with like a manaflow hiflow cat and like a vortex or flowmaster.(still deciding on muffler)
Just getting ideas.
Any input?
Thanks

Catdaddy's right in that you want to develop a 'system' of balanced exhaust gas flow (in/out pressure) from the engine to the tail pipe. Every vehicle has a standard design & then you modify the system from there. The 'ultimate' system would be custom built, preferably out of Stainless. Starting with a tube type header. Then mandrel bent tubing. Muffler/Resonator & finally tailpipe. If your motor was hopped up, the design would change further. Maybe a larger diameter tube size. Maybe the diameter changes as it exits the motor (popular now with dirt bikes).
