cobalt exhaust

Thanks to some great advice from enOoNmAI, I put an exhaust from a SC Cobalt on the Minisub. I used the entire exhaust including the manifold. It is a 2.5" exhaust and I gutted the downpipe. I initially went with an off brand (flowmaster copy) muffler. It was so loud that it left my ears buzzing after five minutes on the highway. First thing Monday, I found a shop that sold IMCO and replaced the muffler with an IMCO turbo......MUCH BETTER!!!! It feels, and sounds, stronger. I haven't driven it enough yet to do a full analysis, but it definitely feels better.

A couple of items I should mention. The Cobalt exhaust hangs a little low in front of the rear axle. I think this is because the hanger that is welded to the pipe is in a different location. My car is lowered and there is no danger of it scraping the ground, but you can see the pipe from the side. I also need to check and see if I have a slight leak around the manifold. I had them use my stock manifold gasket with the cobalt manifold because I would have had to order a new gasket. If the gasket is not exactly the same, I might be getting a slight leak from there. If it is leaking, it is very minor as I cannot really tell. I will keep the thread updated with issues as they arise and I deal with them. I am very happy with the results.

Update--The shop that put the exhaust on for me somehow stretched the flexpipe on the downpipe to the point that it came loose on one end. That is what caused the leak. I have since replaced the downpipe and it sounds much better. The car definitely seems to pull harder throughout the powerband. It also seems to just run smoother all around. The sound is really cool (for a 4cyl.) Some have said it sounds like the old MG's. I am very happy with this mod!!
