Hello

Hi guys, a newbie to the forum here, just wanted to say HELLO !!!!! I have a 2006 HHR, sunburst metallic orange, love the car. I do have a quick question, a friend of mine have a bet, maybe someone can settle it, who made the engine, he said it is not a GM. It is the 2.2 ecotec. So long for now.....

The Ecotec line is manufactured in Tonawanda, New York / Kaiserslautern, Germany / and (for Saturn) in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Found strictly in GM vehicles, except a few Fiats.

ecotech 2.2

Hi HHR Groupies!
I have just purchased my 2006 HHR, I am just getting into all the groups and clubs. I just started to get some accessories and I REALLY need to get some nice chrome wheels, that makes a huge difference in the looks of the car.
Looking forward to chatting and finding new info on everyones HHR.
Take Care!

Don't you mean a few Opels? rmaenzahhr - Maybe your friend was considering that the engine was originally designed by Opel.

No Opel is a div of GM now, and GM and Fiat have some kind of deal.

I dont think many people know who GM umbrellas though...(Opel, Vauxhall, Saab, Holden and so on...) The ECOtec motor is found in all of these automobiles.

It was originally made by GM/Opel and first introduced in 1996. It was put into the 1996 Opel Corsa.

So to answer your question the engine IS made by GM. Created in Europe by the European GM division and then carried over here in 2000.
