Hey I got my Mobil 1 Oil Cap today and it fits fine, but I noted that the original stock cap is a bit different. I has a small vent on the bottom and seems like it is spring loaded on the inside. I have a 2.4L and I was just wondering if you noticed the same thing. It looks like you have the 2.2L

Thanks

I've used RP in my last few vehicles and love it. My HHR will be 29 weeks old with as of today 35K miles on it and not a problem one with the engine. My battery did die about a month ago which the dealer replaced and gave me a rental for the day. Other than that, no issues and very happy with my high mileage mobile....

John, I did not notice that difference. And yes I have a 2.2 I would think that the oil cap is the same for 2.2 and 2.4 but i'll check and report back sometime this weekend.

I took pictures this morning of the 2.2 HHR stock oil cap and the corvette Mobil1 oil cap. Both have the same grooves that lock it down into the valve cover and both have the same blue o-ring to seal off at the cover. I've been using the Mobil1 cap for a month now, no leaks, no problems. Fits like it was made for the HHR.

TX & Mike (SoCal)

I was just wondering if anyone might know why the stock cap has what appears to be a little pressure relief opening. TX yes the Mobil 1 Cap fits perfect and thank You for taking the time to take pictures.

I did the same thing this morning. I am still trying to understand this ECOTECH 2.4L. It is very different than the old engines I used to work on from on old V-8 Flat Head to MGB and Volkswagen 4 cylinders. I don't even recognize the plug wires. I see them but they look very foreign to me. Sorry to get off track and show my age, but this is my 100th post since joining and I want to thank everyone on the forum who has offerred help and suggestions.

Now back to my question, Does anyone know the purpose of the opening in the bottom of the stock 2.4L, although from TX's picture the 2.2L has the same cap. I wonder what the bottom of Mike's (SoCal) new oil cap looks like.

Here is a picture to illustrate.

Thank You

John,

I don't think the button on the bottom of the stock cap serves any porpose. When I looked mine over this morning the white underside of the stock cap seems to be hollow, but does not appear to vent through the top of the cap. I think the important thing to note is the o-ring that seals the cap to the valve cover is the same on both caps. If the button serves some other purpose I'm clueless.

I know what you mean about the ECO engine, it has all types of new stuff that takes some time to get used to.

The Mobil1 cap sure looks better.

We examined that also, it is not a vent, and the valvetrain pressure is already vented through the PCV line (hose) that runs to the throttle body. That button seems to rest on the metal oil deflector inside the filler hole. It's kinda funky.

The bottom of our cap looks identical to the Mobil 1 cap's underside.

I never look at the bottom though...

Thanks, maybe someone else might have some ideas in the future.
